Literature Text

He leaned against a pew, positioning himself so he was quite comfortable. “Do you read?”
Lauren nodded, “Every chance I get. Do you?”
“Very much the same for me. My father thinks it’s so wonderful that I pick up books instead of burdening myself with other irrelevant things.”
She picked up the last piece of trash and threw it into her barrel. She never knew of Jason reading. He would seem to be the type of man who would lounge around all day, yelling at other’s and making life more miserable or complicated. She had not known that he had a passion for books. Though, she couldn’t tell if it was his passion or his fathers. So, she went on her business and set the barrel of garbage down by corner of the room, as she walked back, she found him looking off into the direction of the stairwell. “Does your father burden you with many of his ideal characteristics of a son?”
Jason slowly turned his head so that he was looking at her again. He was day dreaming again, and felt a little bad about it. “No, not really. I just love to prove the old man wrong. Nothing like that can brighten up my day.”
Lauren let out a little muffled laugh. She didn’t say anything else just looked away and wondered what it would be like to live with a family, a real family. Though, Sister Anne was her family, and she was much appreciated of her.
“What do you do for fun?”
Lauren lifted her eyes to him as she said, “I like to find doors that lead to other places in the Church.”
Jason looked at her curiously. Other doors in the church? “Will you show me?”
Though, just as he spoke, Sister Anne came walking down the stairwell. She was an older lady about sixty years old. She was smart and witted, though she was strict and straight to the point. Sister Anne heard the whole conversation that had been going on between the two of them, even over the organ. “Lauren, you’re finished already?”
Jason looked to Lauren and noticed that she straightened her posture almost immediately as Sister Anne said her name. He wondered where she slept at night, and if she was cold or lonely, but he shook those thoughts away. He wasn’t the man to worry about someone else’s luck.
   Lauren nodded, “Yes, Ma’am.”
Sister Anne turned to face Jason, her face as gentle as usual. “How are you tonight Jason?”
“I’m doing just fine, Sister Anne. How about yourself?”
“I’ll be doing better when I’m in bed. Your father left twenty minutes ago, I forgot to tell you.” Sister Anne said.
Jason’s face did not change. “Well, I guess I’ll be going then. Night ladies.” He said as he turned and headed for the exit.
“Good night.” She let whisper from her lips as she watched him leave the room. She longed for him to stay, and just couldn’t wait for the next time they could talk. Though, she doubt that would happen anytime soon.
“You shouldn’t get wrapped up in him. He’ll just stir your feelings and let you down.”
Lauren nodded her head, and as she headed down the hall to her bedroom she thought about their conversation they had. She was curious to why he started talking to her. Though, Sister Anne could be right, Lauren had to find out for herself. Everything seemed to be better than being by herself.
Second part to this prose that I seem to love. Lol. Anywho, if you hadn't read the first one here is the link to it. [link]
